New Works: Summer 2026
I am pleased to share my latest body of work, completed in the summer of 2026. This series of four large-scale paintings is defined by sweeping translucent forms that move between petals, veils, and shifting light. The layered washes and expansive fields of color loosely connect to the stained-color tradition of Color Field painting, while remaining grounded in gesture, material, and atmosphere.

These paintings were created for the Mayo Clinic corporate collection in Rochester, MN.

The smooth, soft surfaces are contrasted in some areas by more defined texture, where I added sand. I begin with white sand and dye it with the same colors used in the paint, allowing the texture to feel fully integrated into the composition. Those textured moments interrupt the softness just enough, adding a tactile contrast that gives the work more depth and a sense of quiet movement.

I am interested in the way translucent color can shift depending on what it passes over. A pale layer can soften an edge, deepen a shadow, or create an entirely new hue where two colors overlap. In these paintings, the image slowly builds through those interactions; one veil of color responding to the next.

Before beginning the final paintings, I made a series of small color studies. I start all commissions this way so I can understand how the transparent layers will behave once they overlap, and what new hues will appear as the mixed colors interact with one another.

The rest of my year is filled with other special projects, and I’ll be sharing more from the studio soon.
